Elected to Parliament in the 2019 general election, Dehenna became the first Conservative MP to take the County Durham seat of Bishop Auckland since its creation in 1885.
Dehenna’s dad was killed with a single punch when she was just 13, changing her life forever and setting off a chain of events that ultimately propelled her to her position in Parliament. The events that Dehenna and her family went through mean she is acutely aware of the importance of making sure victims and their families are supported after one punch assaults take place.
Dehenna launched the APPG on One Punch Assaults in 2021, working with One Punch UK to investigate justice and sentencing reform and raise awareness that one punch can kill. Since establishing the APPG, Dehenna has been pursuing the campaign tenaciously in Parliament, raising awareness among MPs and Peers, and pursuing an inquiry that talks to victims, perpetrators and lawyers about the causes and effects of one-punch assaults.
